The Krewe Ga Rou Parade will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 in conjunction with the Rougarou Fest sponsored by the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center. It will begin at 7:00 PM and finish at approximately 8:00 PM. All participants must arrive by 6:00 PM so that groups may be placed in the parade line-up.

The parade will organize in the Town Hall parking lot located on the corner of Barrow Street and Tunnel Boulevard. The parade route will start at Town Hall on Barrow, turn left on Main Street, and then travel down Grinage Street where it will disband at the corner of Grinage and Main. The route is 1 mile long.

A copy of the line-up list will be provided prior to the event. The Houma Police Department and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s office will be in charge of security.

You must provide your own transportation to and from the parade. SLWDC is unable to provide shuttle service.

SLWDC reserves the right to prevent any participant from walking in the parade if his/her costume is deemed to be offensive. Please bear in mind that Rougarou Fest is a family event when selecting a parade costume.

Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a group chaperone (one adult per every 8 children).

Participants must provide their own candy. Only wrapped candy will be allowed for distribution. To prevent injury, large bags of candy cannot be thrown into the crowd.

Floats should be decorated. We encourage child wagons or similar children’s vehicles. These must be pull-type only. Children on motorized vehicles is not permitted. Adults over 18 may drive decorated specialty vehicles including 4-wheelers, go-carts, lawn mowers or other small vehicles. The festival also invites decorated boats to be pulled as floats in the parade. Adults riding or operating vehicles do so at their own risk. The parade will be limited to no more than four (4) party buses on a first come basis. All party bus riders must be in costume and throw candy during the parade.

The fee to participate is $50 for a specialty vehicle and $50 for a group of up to 20 people. For groups of more than 20 people, the fee is $75. This fee helps to defray the cost of permits, security and insurance required for this event. There will be no refunds in the event of inclement weather.

If a group requires music, the group must provide its own sound system and lyrics must not be offensive. Each walking group will be allowed one vehicle free of charge, if necessary, to carry sound equipment, water, candy and supplies. If a second vehicle is needed, walking groups are allowed one additional vehicle at a cost of $50.
