FOLKLIFE VILLAGE

The Folklife Village at the Rougarou Fest is a free, immersive area of the festival grounds where the rich traditions of South Louisiana come to life. Located under several welcoming tents, this designated cultural space invites visitors to experience the living heritage of the bayou region through hands-on demonstrations, discussions, performances, and exhibits. From traditional crafts and music to dance, storytelling, and regional cuisine, the Folklife Village offers festivalgoers the opportunity to see, hear, taste, and participate in the cultural practices that define our bayou communities.

Developed in close collaboration with local cultural organizations and community members, the Folklife Village ensures authenticity, respect, and meaningful representation of the traditions being shared. By connecting visitors directly with artisans, musicians, cooks, and other tradition bearers, the Village creates opportunities not only to observe but to learn and engage. Whether perfecting a time-honored skill or discovering a tradition for the first time, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the history, diversity, and enduring spirit of South Louisiana’s folk culture.
